Amidst stones, memories and vineyards
«CATHEDRAL WINES»
In the heart of Provence Verte, in Entrecasteaux, the Clos de Caille reveals a unique terroir, comprising clay-limestone soils traversed by a limestone vein.
At an altitude of 200 metres, the Mediterranean climate, characterised by significant temperature variations between day and night, encourages slow and steady ripening. It preserves the aromatic freshness of the grapes, refines the tannins and brings out the full precision of our wines.
With a history dating back to 12th century, back when the Cistercian monks of Thoronet Abbey were already cultivating vines on these lands; today, the estate continues to uphold uncompromising standards and a quest for excellence in winemaking.
Under the leadership of the Mariotti family, Clos de Caille was revived in the 20th century. Since then, Clos de Caille has moved forward with a firm conviction: to unite heritage and modernity without ever betraying its soul, and to reveal, day after day, through patient work in the vineyard, the generosity of a unique terroir.

Where vineyards and history come together
There are places where vines grow not only in the soil, but also within a history.
In its article on «chapelles ardentes», *Le Figaro* highlights this intimate aspect of the estate: the connection between the vineyard, the values upheld by the Mariotti family, and the quest for excellence that guides the way we craft our wine.
Without ever seeking pomp and ceremony, Clos de Caille cultivates a sense of gentle solemnity. It is the solemnity of traditions passed down, of places preserved, and of roots embraced. It is the solemnity of a family which, generation after generation, keeps a legacy alive without allowing it to become set in stone.
The names of our vintages are not merely labels. They embody a sense of belonging.
Clos de Caille ‘Lucis’, in white, evokes light, brightness and vigour.
Clos de Caille ‘Patrius’, in red, conveys the idea of lineage, roots and passing on.
Anomis, as a rosé, expresses a free-spirited uniqueness that is both Provençal and intimate.
In these three colours, reveals a common thread: the Clos de Caille’s attachment to its history, its local area, and this cradle of Christianity which has shaped the landscapes, the place-names and the memories. A sincere loyalty to the land, and to those who lived here before us.

At Clos de Caille, wine is crafted with patience. It does not seek to charm immediately, but to develop over time, driven by verticality, tension and balance. This is the foundation of our high standards: prioritising precision over showmanship, depth over breadth, and refinement over abundance.
«We craft our wines as one might build a cathedral, with a long, rising finish that remains vertical throughout. The wines of Clos de Caille seek verticality rather than breadth, tension rather than roundness, and a sense of elevation reminiscent of the architectural lines of a cathedral’s naves.»

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Alicia Dorey, and to the entire editorial team, for this thoughtful insight into our estate, its history and the values that drive it.

THE CLOS JOURNAL
🗞️
In the vineyards, the intense heat and the drought, which is already well and truly established, require constant attention. To protect the grapes from the sun, we have decided to postpone pruning — the process of cutting away excess shoots to help the vine focus its energy on the fruit.
By leaving more foliage on the vines, we provide the grapes with natural protection against the heat. This, too, is part of the work we do as winegrowers at the Clos: observing, adapting and supporting the vines in line with the rhythm of the season.
Whilst conditions remain challenging and the harvest is likely to take place earlier than last year, every decision taken today is aimed at preserving the balance and quality of the future vintage as much as possible
