The 2026 vintage comes to life
THE FIRST RELEASES OF THE VINTAGE
After months of work in the vineyards, of observation, patience and attention paid to each plot, The time has come to reveal the result. The grape harvest marks this unchanging occasion when the bounty of nature meets the precision of the winemaker’s craft, revealing the identity of a new vintage.
Since last winter, our Master Winemakers have guided the vines through every stage of their cycle: pruning, vegetative growth, flowering and monitoring ripeness, right up to the first snips of the secateurs. A whole year of observation and decision-making now comes to a head with the final bunches being harvested. These are gradually making their way to the cellar, where the first signs of balance are already emerging and the first releases from the 2026 vintage.
At Clos de Caille, the grape harvest also reflects the evolution of long-established practices in the vineyard, which are now guided by a more precise and contemporary vision. Since 2023, Matthew Cosse oversees the grape harvest, with close monitoring of ripeness and a piecemeal interpretation progress. But the essence remains the same: teams working together, from the vineyard to the cellar, united by a single goal — to harvest every grape at just the right moment and preserve the distinctive character of our terroir.
An approach in tune with a Provençal market that is now more receptive to wines with a distinct character, which are easy to drink and less defined solely by their maturity.
THE FINAL DAYS OF THE GRAPE HARVEST
An early and tightly scheduled harvest helps to preserve more freshness and limit the effects of overripeness. After several intense weeks, the final bunches are picked with the same care as the first. Some plots are harvested at night or in the early hours of the morning, when temperatures are lower, to preserve the integrity of the berries, limit oxidation and maintain their aromatic potential.
Hand-picking extends this pursuit of precision: it allows for an initial selection of the bunches in the vineyard and a more meticulous sorting process before they enter the winery. Whilst the harvest concludes in the vineyard, another crucial stage then begins in the winery, with the initial decisions regarding pressing, settling and winemaking.
« For this 2026 vintage, we aimed to harvest at just the right moment, without waiting for the grapes to become overripe. The differences between the plots are very evident this year: some retain a great deal of tension, whilst others offer more body and structure. The first pressings already display lovely freshness, with precise balance and distinct aromatic profiles. » — Matthieu Cosse

Behind the scenes of the grape harvest
At Clos de Caille, the grape harvest is planned on a plot-by-plot basis. Our 40-hectare vineyard comprises a wide variety of grape varieties and site conditions, each developing at its own pace.
This detailed analysis of the vineyard layout determines the harvesting order: some areas are ready earlier, whilst others require a few extra days. The teams therefore adjust their harvesting schedule according to the ripeness, the condition of the grapes and the desired profile.
