Geology

Geology

Clos de Caille is located on the Rhaetian step, between the crystalline massif of the Maures and the limestone Jurassic Provence.

The geological formation here is remarkable, featuring ancient limestones dating back 200 to 250 million years, reshaped by the tectonic shifts that formed the Alps.

The Estate’s soils are predominantly silty-limestone with a significant component of silica.

The cool terroirs at the valley floors consist of more or less stony silt deposits with varying clay content.

The shallow soils on the hillsides, arranged in terraces, have developed on a bed of dolomitic magnesium limestone.

Nestled between hills and valleys within a well-preserved natural setting, Clos de Caille owes the quality of its terroir to the presence of microclimates and the diversity of its soils, which foster the creation of exceptional wines.
