Geology
The Clos de Caille terroir consists of two geological classes:
- Limestone Deposited over 3 million years ago on top of a layer of sediment, the proportion of limestone varies between 40-60 % depending on the parcel.
- Clay Of a more recent origin, approximately one hundred thousand years old, clay occurs on gently sloping hillsides.
The Clos de Caille has been drained ever since the 19th century, and benefits from a fast water run off which protects the quality of the grapes.
The complexity of a limestone-clay geology gives our terroir optimum conditions to produce distinguished wines.
